Boston has one of the most vibrant and interesting atmosphere’s of any city in America. With a rich history and odd layout, Boston is one of the best places to explore. Wandering around for a day, you never really know what you are going to find— unless you’re a local of course (though even we are surprised at times).
So, where should those wide eyed wanderers looking to explore Boston begin? Improv Asylum has a few ideas you may want to check out this summer.
Comedy Shows

Excuse us for putting comedy at the top of this list, but if you haven’t noticed yet, we are pretty fond of it. Boston has an amazon comedy scene! If seeing a show at Improv Asylum isn’t your thing, then check out our sister club Laugh Boston for some of the country’s leading names in stand up.
Looking for a different venue? No worries. You can catch comedy shows all over the place. National headliners come to Boston constantly to perform at venues such as The Wilbur theater and many others throughout the city.
Also, looking for some underground open mics? Boston has a ton! Check out The Green Dragon on Mondays, The Bebop on Tuesdays, and White Bull on Wednesday’s for some great up and coming comedians. You’ll be amazed at how many talented free range comedians there are roaming about.
Trolley Tours

Are you looking to explore Boston, but are way too lazy to walk about?
We understand. Walking is exhausting, and to be quite honest a bit outdated. Why not take a trolley tour instead? Spend the afternoon zooming around the city seeing its hotspots, all for an affordable price. Sounds amazing right?
Visit Old Town Trolley Tours for one of Boston’s best sightseeing tours. They will take you all over the city and give you the rundown of what’s what. The best part? You can hop on and off all day long! So spend some time in different neighborhoods, then get back on a trolley and find another spot to explore!
If you’re not a scaredy cat, then you can take one of Boston’s Ghost tours! These tours vary in scariness, and bring you through Boston to reveal its dark and terrifying secrets. Much like skydiving into a volcano with a shark attached to your back, these tours are not for the faint of heart.
Lesser Known Museums

Boston boasts some of the best museums around, such as the Museum of Art or The Museum of Science, but there are also a lot of lesser known museums that are just as exhilarating! Here are a few of our favorites:
- Franklin Park Zoo: Everyone loves zoos, and you’ll especially love this one. Quiet and interesting, it’s the perfect spot to go if you love animals! We suggest giving them all names and seeing who responds.
- Battleship Cove, Americas Fleet Museum: Looking to learn what life was like on a ship from WWII? This museum takes you into the lives of the soldiers and sailors that fought for our country. Any maritime fanatic will love this.
- Paul Revere’s house: Come visit our neighbor (sort of)! Paul Revere’s house is only a short distance from our theater, and is a great place to tour for any history buff, or fan of midnight rides. Take the time to learn about one of Boston’s most legendary patriots, then come see our show to tell us all about it!
North End Feasts

What’s more fun than seeing a comedy show in The North End? Nothing.
Second best though is probably experiencing one of The North End feasts that take place throughout the summer!
Coming up August 12th-15th is the Fisherman’s Feast of the Madonna Del Soccorso di Sciacca, which will feature a grand procession through the North End.
With music, dancing, and celebration, these feasts are an awesome spectacle. Enjoyable for the whole family, come down to the North End to relax and explore— then come and see one of our shows!
Hanging On The Greenway

The Greenway is one of the best places to take a lunch and just chill out. With a large stretch of parks to choose from, we recommend chilling on the Rose Kennedy Greenway, situated right across the street from us.
Grab some food from Pauli’s, or a coffee from Thinking Cup and head over to this spacious area to relax with your friends— or just chill out by yourself! It’s not any of our business who you hang out with.
With plenty of space, park benches and swings, and even fountains to play in— this park is perfect for anyone needing to relax. And believe us, in today’s world we all need to relax a bit.
The Lawn On D

Interested in swinging (did I phrase that correctly)? If so, head down to The Lawn On D. This open space in the Waterfront District is fantastic for relaxing, and enjoying your day— nor to mention for seeing live events!
With two fantastic venues, The Lawn On D boasts live performances throughout the week. You can catch live music at night while enjoying food and drink from their bar.
Easily one of the best hangout spots in Boston, we have yet to meet anyone who does not love it here!
Harbor Walk

The Harbor Walk is possibly the most relaxing, and beautiful way to spend a day in Boston. Spanning nearly 40 miles in total, the views are striking, engaging, and fun for anyone looking to just take a stroll.
Start down near the North End and walk towards Seaport to take in all the beautiful advantages the harbor has to offer. You will pass by docks, hotels, aquariums, and all sorts of other spots on your way.

This place rocks! The Institute of Contemporary Art is situated snugly in Seaport, and is one of the coolest art galleries around! Boasting new exhibits from all over, you never know what you will find.
You won’t find your traditional paintings from the renaissance here— all of their art is new and modern! Ranging from exhibits on technology, to works of art calling into question the trends of the 21st century, you will be amazed at what you find.

If you have read our other blog posts (which you totally should) you will know that there are a lot of things to do if the North End. ]
We know that having multiple options to choose from can be difficult, so why not choose to do it all with a walking tour!
With many to choose from, ranging from historic tours of all the cool spots along the freedom trail, to food and cannoli tours, there is a lot of variety in what you can see!
Most tours are convenient and affordable, giving you great insight into ‘Little Italy’ that you can’t get on your own.
Chinatown

Located next to Downtown Crossing, this little hotspot is a ton of fun to roam through. Boasting some of the best food in all of Boston, you will be hard pressed not to go into one of the many restaurants you’ll find.
The food option here is incredible, and the scenery is fantastic. It’s only a short walk from the Boston Common, and well worth exploring.
Get some delicious Chinese food, some bubble tea, and explore the many shops and parks situated throughout!
