My Mom Died When I Was 14 (A Comedy)

The Winner of The Hollywood Fringe Producers’ Award, “My Mom Died When I Was 14 (A Comedy)” is the hit solo show from Matthew Gudernatch that touches on what it was like to lose his mother at a tender age, decidedly before he went through puberty in college. Take a trip down memory lane as he relives the song he wrote for his first crush, the lies he told about body hair, his issues with Lonestar, and the jars of pee. Please don’t ask about the jars of pee, we promise that everything will be explained on stage.

There are stories about high school, songs about penises, jokes about rat tails, videos about traumatic memories, and other attempts to turn all of the unending pain he’s endured into a fun night out with maybe just a pinch of male nudity.

As for Matthew, you might have seen him in a commercial, shows like Black-ish and The Daily Show, or heard him in an episode of American Dad! After beginning his stage career in Boston and New York, Matthew moved to Los Angeles in 2010, where he’s been petting his cats and making videos he’s embarrassed of on instagram @gudernatchos. He’s written and directed multiple award winning shorts, had his own pilot optioned by Comedy Central, and was crowned as Connecticut’s Comedy Idol for his stand-up routine in 2014. He is a lover of independent theater and alternative spaces that welcome innovation on the stage, and he wants to make you laugh so desperately that it comes up a lot in therapy.

After an award-winning ten week run at the Hollywood Fringe Festival, Matthew has performed “My Mom Died When I Was 14 (A Comedy)” all over the country, proving in person that even though he was 4’11 in high school, he has grown considerably.
